Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index

A joint report by Deloitte’s Global Manufacturing Industry group and the U.S. Council on Competitiveness indicates that access to talented workers able to support innovation is the primary factor driving global competitiveness at manufacturing companies — above factors typically associated with competitive manufacturing, such as energy, labor and materials. It also suggested that a new group of economic leaders will emerge, consisting of Mexico, Poland and Thailand, and that competition is easier in Asia than in the United States or Europe. The index is based on the answers of more than 400 chief executive officers and senior manufacturing executives worldwide to a survey conducted in late 2009.
